‘The Keeping Room...an old fashioned way to gather'

In colonial times, keeping rooms were often used for sleeping. But the
common thread between today’s and yesterday’s Keeping Rooms, is daily
family gatherings…and is most definitely the function in this space!

It is Dragonfly Interiors' strong belief that color and fabrics are
fundamental to a pleasing design result. With that in mind, the Keeping
Room was designed with many layers of fabric in warm tones of teal and
brown. Today, fabrics can be beautiful and highly functional, as well, and
these fabrics will stand the test of time in their visual interest and their

While not a large space, the varied elements and textures of the Keeping
Room make it an enjoyable, functional, and visually comforting ‘place
for keeping!'
While the fabrics set Dragonfly
Interiors' course and were the initial
inspiration, the grasscloth
wallcovering, coffered ceiling, and
magical lighting fixtures in the bay
window, all serve to enhance the
warmth of the room. The fireplace
was reworked to appeal to the
modern day uses of this ‘heart of the
keeping room.'
